Bad Aussee is to the east of Salzburg, near the lakes of Altausseer See, Toplitzsee and Grundlsee in the Salzkammergut. It is part of the Ausseerland area together with Altaussee, Bad Mitterndorf, Grundlsee, Pichl-Kainisch and Tauplitz-Alm. Bad Aussee is not far from Bad Ischl, and Hallstatt with its lake. The main road (145) passes the village near the train station which is south of the village centre.
