Kufstein Location

Kufstein is in the Tirol (Tyrol) region of Austria and lies on the east bank of the Inn river. Kufstein is north of Söll near the Wilder Kaiser and the Hohe Salve mountains.
There are a number of villages near Kufstein (Bad Häring, Ebbs, Erl, Langkampfen, Niederndorf, Niederndorferberg, Schwoich, Thierseetal) that together with Kufstein form the “Ferienland Kufstein”.
The town of Wörgl lies to the south west, and the villages of of Söll, Scheffau am Wilden Kaiser, Ellmau, and Going am Wilden Kaiser are to the south and south east Kufstein.
Walking / Hiking in the Kufstein Area
South of Kufstein near Söll, there are some moderate walks around the Hintersteiner See area. Harder walks are east of Kufstein in the Wilderkaiser mountain range. To the south east the Kitzbüheleralpen range offers some good walks to Hohe Salve (1827m) and down to Brixen and Hopfgarden. There are also good walks along the valley between Söll and Scheffau, Ellmau and Going.
The Tourist Office may offer free led walks.
Skiing in the Kufstein Area
The “Ferienland Kufstein” (Kufstein, Bad Häring, Ebbs, Erl, Langkampfen, Niederndorf, Niederndorferberg, Schwoich, Thierseetal) form the local skiing area.
The other main downhill skiing area is near Söll and the Hohe Salve area. Söll is part of the SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser-Brixental and the Kitzbüheler Alpen Ski Region so the skiing area covers a large area.
Kitzbüheler Alpen Ski Region comprises of:
- Skigebiet Kitzbühel (Kitzbühel, Kirchberg, Jochberg, Pass Thurn, Mittersill Oberpinzgau)

- Skiregion Schneewinkel (St. Johann in Tirol, Oberndorf, Kirchdorf, Erpfendorf, Fieberbrunn, St. Ulrich, St. Jakob, Hochfilzen, Waidring, Reit im Winkl)
- Hochtal Wildschönau (Niederau, Oberau, Auffach, Thierbach)
- Skigebiet Alpbachtal (Alpbach, Reith, Kramsach).

Cable Cars - Chair Lifts
There is a chair lift in Kufstein, Sesselbahn Wilder Kaiser, with a middle station at Duxeralm (897 m) and the top station at 1270m.
