Starting in Zell am See, walk or take the bus to the valley station of the Sonnalmbahn gondala, which is next to the Schmittenhöhe cable car. At the top of the Sonnalmbahn, walk across to the chair lift up to Sonnkogel (Schrambachkopf on some maps). The path then goes south west along the top to Salersbachköpfl. Near the summit of Salersbachköpfl, the path (Schmittenweg) leaves and then descends north west down to the village of Viehhofen. The return is by bus from Viehhofen back to Zell am See.
